Teen Book Box Club: April edition

Pick up a curated monthly book box at the Advanced Learning Library. The box will include a book to borrow and return, a book to keep at home, and other goodies on a monthly reading theme. 2024 themes:

Mar. - March madness
Apr. - Poetry month - novels in verse!

Become familiar with the process of printing to the Library’s MakerBot 3D printers. Learn the best practices for optimizing prints for the Replicator+ and the Replicator Z18. This is the second of three steps to be certified to use our MakerBot 3D Printers. 3D Printing Basics is a pre-requisite for this class. Registration is required. Learn the basics of 3D printing at the Wichita Public Library. Learn about our MakerBot and Prusa printers and see them in action. Participants will also have a chance to see and touch 3D printed objects. This is the first of three steps to become certified to use our 3D Printers. Registration is required. Users must be 14 years or older to be certified to print. Children with adult supervision are welcome.

Looking to broaden your reading horizons? Join us for the Expand Your Shelf Book Club, a quarterly book club that explores diverse authors and perspectives. For this quarter’s selection, we will be reading Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange. In this follow-up to the breakout bestseller There There, the NEA Big Read Wichita 2024 title, Tommy Orange traces the legacies of the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 and the Carlisle Indian Industrial School through three generations of a family in a story that shows how history can both break and shape people and what lessons we can learn from this history.

The Wichita Public Library is hitting the road and bringing library services directly to children and caregivers! The Book Bus is an outreach initiative to bring library services to areas of Wichita that don’t have quick access to a physical library location. The recycled bus from Wichita Transit is outfitted with shelves of books residents can borrow from the bus. While the majority of the books are geared towards children, there is a limited collection of popular books for adults.
